Everything you need to know about your first visit!

When should I schedule my child's first dental visit?

Children should begin visiting their pediatric dentist soon after they develop their first tooth. It’s essential to start good oral habits as young as possible to prevent diseases like tooth decay. Children can be especially nervous when it comes to new environments, so we want our patients to feel like family by getting acclimated to our office as soon as possible. When your child gets comfortable with us and our office they can develop positive attitudes towards dental hygiene that will last a lifetime!

Your child’s first visit to the pediatric dentist will help set the tone about your child’s future dental care. Your children’s first set of teeth need special care to ensure their adult teeth come in properly leaving them with a happy and healthy smile for life!

May I accompany my child?

Parents are encouraged to come into the treatment area on the first visit to see the office and meet Dr. Rogers.

The staff makes great efforts to ensure that your child feels comfortable in our office, after all, that's what we are truly here for! We hope that you and your child will become comfortable enough to enter the treatment area by themselves on subsequent visits.

Occasionally, Dr. Rogers may feel that a child will respond with better behavior if a parent is present. If we do ask a parent or guardian to accompany their child into the treatment area, we suggest that they act as a "silent & supportive" observer only. It’s important that we establish cooperation and trust with each patient directly.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s dental care at home be sure to ask at an appropriate time, we strive to work as a team with you and your child to maintain a bright smile on your child’s face.

What about follow-up visits?

Based on the results of your child's first visit and initial examination, we may recommend one or more follow-up visits for the completion of any existing dental treatment. We also recommend that your child be seen every six months for preventive care and checkups. We will mail you a postcard reminding you of your child's scheduled six-month checkup.

During these biannual appointments, Dr. Rogers will also assess your child's dental and skeletal development and how it relates to future orthodontic treatment. Dr. Rogers is trained in the application of interceptive orthodontics and will regularly discuss treatment options if necessary.

Many times, extensive costly dental and orthodontic treatment can be avoided through timely pediatric care while the face, jaw, and teeth are developing.
